New York Holiday Singers at The Triad, Thursday Dec. 22nd

We had a great time singing for folks at Don't Tell Mama on Saturday night, where we debuted our new original song, "Merry Christmas, Lonely New Year," as well as our fresh, tight new contemporary sound! Overhead: "...when I read it was holiday music, I kind of rolled my eyes, but these were seriously the best vocal arrangements I've heard in, like, 10 years." Wow! Wish we could have gotten that on the record. Thanks to everyone at Don't Tell Mama; they truly are some of the nicest and most supportive staff around! Thanks also to the three visitors that saw an ad for our show and stopped by.

Thanks also go to Holiday Chorister Eliza Poehlman, who stepped in and picked up the music to fill in for our own Jen Arvay, who was hospitalized last week and is out for the season. Thanks, Eliza! Get well soon, Jen!

But, don't worry: you haven't missed your chance to let us redefine holiday vocal music for you! We have one more public show remaining, at NYC's fantastic Triad theater. Remember, you got an appetizer of the goodness at our kickoff; come to Triad for the full course.

The Triad has a 2-drink minimum, and is cash-only! Buy your tickets ahead of time, please. Note that there is a decent non-alcoholic menu, as well.

Better Know The Singers: Adam Dietz

Welcome to the newest edition of Better Know the Singers! In this series, we get to know some of the Holiday Singers... better. Maybe that was evident from the title. We passed along a series of questions to our singers to see if we can't learn more about them and their time in the New York Holiday Singers so far. We're almost done meeting all of the singers!

Today we're getting to know Adam Dietz, the second of our two new tenors this year. Adam's rich tones add a level of power to our men's section to help the three guys compete with the four ladies, and he specializes in our legit and standard arrangements.

Holiday Singers in Southold, NY This Saturday

This Saturday, December 18th, a trio of our Holiday Singers comprised of Shalyah, Jen and Doug make their way out to Southold, NY, for a featured performance at The Custer Institute and Observatory! This neat gig is open to the public, with a suggested donation at the door. We're thrilled to be singing at this historic site, and had fun adapting our arrangements to work with SAT instead of SATB (we have a private event that night where we're sending an SATB quartet.)

For more information, check out the Facebook event page. You don't need to have a Facebook account to view it: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=161137407256714&index=1

See you Saturday!

10 Things You May Not Have Known About Yule Logs - The 12 Days of Christmas Traditions

When Jen and Greg say that they're nuts about the holidays, they really mean it. Over the years they've amassed a knowledge of holiday lore & traditions, and it's only fit that they share that with you. This series will run through Christmas Day.

Unless you've traveled to modern times from centuries ago in some sort of time-travel device -- and, if so, call me -- you've at best probably only heard of a Yule log. Maybe you're thinking of a rolled-up pastry. Or, at worst, you're thinking that it has something to do with Yul Brynner (some of you may need a time machine just for that reference alone.) You see, the tradition of burning a Yule log is an ancient one, but also a tradition that has waned in popularity in modern times. Its origins predate Christmas itself. We think it's high time this wonderful tradition saw a resurgence, though, and so we'd like to get everyone reacquainted with our ancestors' tradition of the Yule log.
